The first all glass refrigeration system- air conditioning application-built in the United States

Below is a picture of the very first portable all glass refrigeration system built in the United States. The refrigeration system was made to represent a basic hvac application but could be applied to anything from a process chiller to a home air conditioning system.

In 1963 John C. Schaub Sr. built the first portable all glass refrigeration system in

the United States. John Schaub was funded by Worthington Corporation to engineer,

and manufacturer the portable system. The system was a 1/4 Hp R-12 unit, made of

Pyrex glass from Fischer Porter Corp. It contained a Tecumseh compressor and Sporlan

valves. This system gained national recognition as the first of its kind. It was demonstrated

at conventions, colleges & seminars nationwide.
